Travelling to Ostend
If you are touring through Belgium and Europe and plan to arrive in Ostend by
car, there are good motorways approaching the city from Brussels, from Germany
via Aachen, from Holland via Breda, and from France via Lille.
It is also easy to travel by train to Ostend from most Belgian towns, as well
as from major cities in Europe. The large numbers of ferry passengers arriving
from Great Britain mean that there are regular long-distance train services
arriving and departing from Ostend Station.
Ostend International Airport, which lies to the west of town, is convenient
for visitors both to Ostend and Bruges. It has recently been expanded and receives
many flights from places like London, Manchester and Eindhoven (Netherlands).
The international airport at Brussels, which has flights to many other destinations,
is only a short journey away from Ostend by road or rail.
The numbers of visitors arriving in Ostend by ferry from England are so great
that Ostend has often been dubbed 'the most British town in Europe'. Apart from
the regular ferries, which are named after members of the royal family, there
is a high-speed catamaran service, operated by Hoverspeed, which covers the
route from Dover to Ostend in just two hours.
