What to see by car: Ayia Napa
 
There are a number of beautiful beaches within driving distance of Agia Napa.
Agia Thekla, six kilometres westwards of town, takes its name from its small chapel
which is renowned for its spiritual powers.
Nissi Beach and Nissi Bay are adjoining beaches located three to four kilometres
away from Agia Napa. Both are sheltered from the wind and have an enormous amount
to offer, including restaurants, bars, a diving centre, umbrellas, sun beds
and a bungee jump.
Sandy Bay also has a bungee jump - the highest in Napa - as well as excellent
snorkelling. It is only a few kilometres from town and is popular with families
and couples. Also close to town is Konnos Bay, one of the most scenically outstanding
beaches in the area.
Cape Greco is a rock formation situated about seven kilometres out of town,
with crystal clear waters and a spectacular view of Agia Napa. Between it and
neighbouring Limnara is a rocky beach known as the Palaces. The rocks have been
sculpted by the waves, creating the appearance of a fine architectural structure.
West of Agia Napa, you will find Macronissos, where a number of excavations
have been completed to expose rock-cut tombs, of which 19 have been uncovered
to date. These date back to the Cypriot Roman and Hellenistic times.
The nearby villages of Paraimni, Dherynia, Sotira, Liopetri, Xylophagou and
Frenaros are all within a 15-minute drive of Agia Napa. They are known as the
'red soil' villages for obvious reasons, and provide an interesting glimpse
into the lives of the local people. They are also home to numerous churches
and are surrounded by attractive countryside.
Close by, Protaras is a pleasant, family-orientated resort, quieter than Agia
Napa and with a lovely beach. Larnaca, with its attractions of St Lazarus Church,
a museum documenting the history of the area, and the ruins of ancient Kition,
dating back to Old Testament times, is also a short drive away.
