Travelling to Prague
    
Driving a car in Prague isn't too practical, but the roads to the countryside
and borders are good, safe and not too crowded; there are also quick and efficient
routes to Vienna, Bratislava and Germany. Driving to Prague from the west, head
through Nürnberg in Germany, before entering the Czech Republic at the
Waldhaus/Rozvadov border crossing on a new superhighway that connects to Prague
via Plzen. From the northwest, pass through Chemnitz in Germany, before entering
the Czech Republic at the Reitzenhain/Pohranicí. From the south, Linz
in Austria, is a gateway; and from the east, Zilina in Slovakia, is your point
of entry.
Prague is quite centrally located, so it's often easier to arrive by train
or bus from Vienna, Budapest, Munich, Berlin and Warsaw. Trains run daily between
Prague and most major European cities, including Paris and Amsterdam. Czech
Railways (CD) provides a cheap, efficient service; however, buses can be even
faster and cost less. The country is quite hilly, slowing down journeys. Direct
trains run from Paris and take 10 hours; and trains from Berlin take roughly
5 hours, 30 minutes.
Prague has two airports; but almost all international flights arrive at Ruzyne
Airport, 10kms northwest of the city. More than 20 airlines arrive here from
European and transatlantic destinations, as well as from some Asian cities.
Karlovy Vary is a smaller domestic airport with a few regional flights to neighbouring
countries.
