What to see by car: Prague
    
Beyond the historic capital of Prague are the myriad attractions of the Bohemian
countryside, ranging from quaint villages to brooding Gothic castles.
Pruhonice is an attractive village reachable by metro from Prague. Visitors
marvel at its quaint lanes and old shops, but they primarily come to see the
13th century castle now occupied by the Czech Academy of Sciences. Some of the
buildings date from the 12th century. Nearby, a fantastic landscaped park, considered
the best botanical garden in the whole country, is also worth visiting.
Karlstejn castle is perhaps the most photogenic and famous of the many castles
found in this region, and is less than 45 minutes from Prague by train or car.
It gets pretty busy in the summer; but the magnificent audience hall, imperial
bedroom, Marian tower and lavishly decorated Chapel of the Holy Cross make it
a worthwhile trip for any lover of history or beauty.
Konopiste is a 14th century, French-style château situated in the village
of Benesov, where visitors come to see the legacy of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
The town of Kutna Hora is a UNESCO World Heritage site; most of its famous
colourful square and medieval alleyways were created under the guidance of Bohemia's
King Wenceslas II. Kutna Hora's Cathedral of Santa Barbara rivals Prague's St
Vitus in its splendour.
