Geography of Biarritz

Situated near the Spanish border and featuring long pristine beaches, you might
say that Biarritz is perfectly located. The biggest attraction is the beaches;
and Biarritz has become the best place in France to visit if you have a predilection
for fibre glass boards and towering waves. Each year in late July, cadres of
surfboard enthusiasts descend on the town for a week during the Biarritz Surf
Festival -one of Europe's few decent surfing venues.
As the climate and geography of Biarritz is so pleasant, the surrounding countryside
is the perfect place for golf. The Biarritz Cup, a nationwide competition attended
by mostly French golfers is held at the Golf du Phare, one of the best golf
clubs in Europe.
Located a short drive from Biarritz is the famous city of Bayonne. It's the
leading port and the capital of the Pays Basque region, with charming narrow
streets, quays and ramparts. Here, you can watch bullfights or street dancing
at annual fiestas. Alternatively you can drink fine coffee in one of the many
cafés situated along place de la Liberté, the hub of town.
Getting to Bayonne from Biarritz is easy: buses leave from Biarritz every 12
minutes during daylight hours.
