What to see by car: Lyon

Lyon is situated in the heart of the wonderful Rhône valley where, if you have the time and travelling inclination, it would be worth your while getting behind the wheel and exploring the area.

One recommended itinerary suggests you head north to the Parc de la Tete d'Or where there are peaceful ponds and rose gardens, botanical gardens, a small zoo and plenty of attractions for the kids.

Heading to the southern perimeter of Lyon, you'll come across the Gerland quarter, which is a newly developed area with a marina and a park on the Rhône's east bank, which provides an illusion of nature around the mirrored Institut Pasteur.

The Monts du Lyonnais, southwest of the city, is a modest mountain range covered in forest and cherry orchards with a few quiescent villages scattered about the area. The area can prove to be a respite from major tourist hubs; you won't find many fellow explorers around this seclude area.

Also, head to Courzieu's Animal Park where visitors can have a close encounter with wolves and observe eagles flying gloriously above their heads.
