Travelling to Marseille

Although located on the Mediterranean a long way from Paris, Marseille is well
serviced by motorway and has direct rail links with the capital. If you're driving
from Paris, follow the A6 motorway south to Lyon, then continue south along the
A7 to Marseille. From the Italian border, take the A8 (E80) and the A7 south into
Marseille. From the Spanish border, take the A9 through the towns of Perpignan
and Montpellier, turning right on to the A54 and right again on to the A7 to Marseille.
Marseille has train connections from hundreds of European cities, with especially
good connections to and from Italy. The city is the terminus for the TGV bullet
train, which departs daily from Paris's Gare de Lyon and takes only 3 hours,
15 minutes. Local trains leave Paris almost every hour, making a number of stops
before reaching Marseille.
Eurolines buses arrive in Marseille from all over Europe. The bus station (Gare
Routière) is on place Victor Hugo, adjacent to the St-Charles railway
station.
The airport is 28kms northwest of the centre and there are several daily flights
from Paris. Blue and white minivans (navettes) make the trip to Marseille's
St Charles rail station, near Vieux Port, for a fee of €8. The minivans
run daily at 20-minute intervals, from 05:30 to 21:50. Taxis are also available.
There are numerous ferry connections throughout the day and night from Palma
(Majorca), Porto Torres (Sardinia) and the Corsican ports of Porto Vecchio,
Propriano, Ajaccio, Calvi, Bastia and L'Ile Rousse.
