Travelling to Frankfurt

Frankfurt is considered a travel hub for Continental Europe, with planes, trains
and roads all converging there. This makes travel to and from Frankfurt easy
and efficient, with an abundance of choices.
Frankfurt is well connected to the network of autobahns; in fact, most German
autobahns converge in Frankfurt at the spaghetti junction called Frankfurter
Kreuz. German autobahns are all toll-free. The important routes into Frankfurt
are the A3 down from the Netherlands to Frankfurt going south to Cologne, Nüremberg
and Munich; the A5 autobahn which provides a connection south to Mannheim, Heidelberg
and all the way down to the Swiss border at Basel; and, from the west, the A60
connects with the A66, which leads to Frankfurt and the city centre, hooking
up with the A3. All road signs and directions are clear and frequently posted,
making travel by car simple.
Frankfurt's main rail station, the Hauptbahnhof, is the busiest in Europe.
It services over 90 departures daily and is the arrival point for over a quarter
of a million passengers daily. The German railway network is not only reliable
but also modern and efficient. EuroCity trains connect Frankfurt with all major
European cities. The InterCity provides direct connections to most major German
cities. It is good to keep in mind that your Bundesbahn ticket also includes
local subway and tram fares to your final destination.
From Frankfurt's main bus terminal, located on the south side of the Hauptbahnhof,
you can catch long-distance bus service to about 800 German and European cities.
Options abound in terms of local buses, as well as connections to other German
cities and beyond. Buses are operated by the Deutsche Touring Company.
The airport, Flughafen Frankfurt am Main, is the second busiest in Europe after
Heathrow and serves more than 240 destinations world wide. Domestic air travel
is easy and all other main German airports can be reached from Frankfurt. The
airport is located 11kms from the city centre and can easily be reached by public
transportation.
The Airport Train Station is conveniently located beneath Terminal 1. From
here you can connect to the InterCity trains, as well as the S-Bahn tram system
to Frankfurt and outlying cities. Taxis are also easily available and the trip
to the city centre takes about 20 minutes.
