Travelling to Hannover
Hannover lies 150kms south of Hamburg and 120kms southeast of Bremen, is modest
in size and is best known for its various trade fairs. The city has excellent
access via various modes of transportation.
The main A1 Autobahn connects Hannover with major German cities in the north
and south. The A2 Autobahn offers direct connections with cities in the east
and west.
Hannover lies at the junction of an important network of rail lines linking
Scandinavia to Italy and Paris to Moscow. Over 500 trains per day depart from
Hannover, providing efficient connections to other German cities, as well as
European destinations. There are 19 trains to Berlin and 40 trains to Frankfurt
daily. The Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) is centrally located and easy
to access.
Just outside the Hauptbahnhof is the bus station, providing long-distance bus
services to many major German cities. This service is provided by the company
Deutsche Touring.
Hannover's main airport is the Hannover-Langenhagen International Airport,
10 kms north of the city centre. The airport services many domestic and international
destinations. A shuttle bus provides transportation to the city centre, departing
every 20 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof. From the Hauptbahnhof, it is easy to catch
inter-city trains or local trams. Taxis to the city centre are also affordable,
with journey times of around 15 minutes.
