What to see by car: Hannover
 
In and around Hannover you will find plenty to explore. For a little high class
gambling, visit the Spielbank. All the popular casino games such as blackjack,
roulette and baccarat are assembled here.
One of the most popular outings onthe outskirts of Hannover is to the man-made
lake, Maschsee. Hannoverians enjoy boating, swimming and sailing on the lake
and roller-blading, cycling and jogging around the lake. For a more relaxed
day, enjoy a chartered boat ride or stroll along the lake and enjoy the numerous
cafés and restaurants. Every year the European Dragon boat races take
place here and are quite a spectacle.
For more outdoor fun, visit the Eilenriede Forest, also nicknamed the 'city
forest.' The forest lies near the Maschsee and covers 650 hectares, offering
many leisure activities including: walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding
and jogging. There are also many picnic areas, as well as a fitness trail. The
forest also boasts several playgrounds, miniature golf, a toboggan slope and
restaurants. There is something for everyone here.
Just a short drive away, in Pattensen, lies the breathtaking Schloss Marienburg.
This romantic castle was built in 1866 by King Georg V of Hannover for his wife
Queen Marie. The castle sits impressively upon a hill near the River Leine ;the
four-winged structure is magnificent and looks like a romantic medieval castle.
Today, it houses a museum displaying many artefacts of the Hannovrian Kings.
