Travelling to Corfu

Corfu is located 32kms west of the Greek mainland and has good air connections
with Athens and the rest of Europe. Ferry connections are frequent, with services
from many Greek and foreign ports.
KTEL operates coaches all the way from Athens or Thessaloniki; the journey
includes a ferry ride between Igoumenitsa (on the mainland opposite) and Corfu.
This mode of transportation allows you to get on or off at main points, such
as Ioannina, along the way. The buses are comfortable enough, but be prepared
for many hours of winding roads.
Corfu Airport is about four kilometres south of the centre of town. Olympic
Airways provides at least three flights daily to and from Athens and three flights
weekly to and from Thessaloniki. Aegean Airlines also offers occasional and
slightly cheaper flights.
Most visitors arriving by air are on package deals with chartered airlines,
and transfers are usually thrown in. You can also take a taxi into town; a standard
fare should be about €8 but may fluctuate with the destination, amount
of luggage and time of day.
There are a multitude of ferries linking Corfu to both Greek and foreign ports.
There are ferries almost hourly between Igoumenitsa, directly across on the
mainland (one to two hours), and several weekly to and from Patras (seven hours).
During the high season, there is a twice-daily hydrofoil express (30 minutes)
between Corfu and Igoumenitsa.
Also in high season are daily ships linking Corfu to ports in Italy, including:
Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, Trieste and Venice. The Brindisi ferry crossing, also
calling at Igoumenitsa, takes six hours; there are many sailings with various
companies. The Trieste ferry, operated by Anek lines, takes 22 hours; while
the Venice ferry, operated by Minoan Ferries, takes 24 hours.
