What to see by car: Corfu

Driving is the best way to see this stunning island, from the lively beach resorts
in the south and west, to traditional fishing villages and mountainous interior.
Corfu is most famous for its beach resorts and is one of the liveliest islands
in the Ionians. The majority of nightlife activity is located in the resorts
of Benitses and Kavos in the south, the latter being particularly noted for
its wild and brash party scene. The beach area, however, isn't the best and
you'd be better off sticking to the hotel pools.
Thirteen kilometres west of Corfu town is the lovely village of Pelekas, set
on a rocky hill, the summit of which provides views of some of the most spectacular
sunsets on the island. Not far from Pelekas is the Ropa Valley (the agricultural
heart of Corfu) and Corfu's excellent golf course.
Heading west from here towards the beautiful resort of Paleokastritsa, the
roads thread their way through olive and orange groves, pine trees and cypresses.
Paleokastritsa is a miniature earthly paradise with crystal clear waters, enchanting
coves and lush greenery growing right up to the sea.
For a fantastic view of the resort, visit the Angelokastro, the medieval castle
that sits high on a pinnacle overlooking all of Paleokastritsa. Not far away
is the less commercialized resort of Agios Georgios, which is a haven for water
sports lovers.
In the northern part of the island are the resorts of Sidari, with its sandy
beach, and Roda, whose beach is even longer. From Sidari, you can take a boat
to the three picturesque offshore islands of Erikoussa, Mathraki and Othoni.
Their sheltered anchorages are ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
