Travelling to Rhodes

Rhodes is located in the east of the Dodecanese chain of islands and its remoteness
from Athens can make travelling by ferry unattractive.
Rhodes Paradissi Airport is 13kms southwest of the city and receives flights
from all over Europe, mainly with chartered airlines in the summer, which are
usually the cheapest option. The main domestic scheduled carrier is Olympic
Airways, offering flights from cities all over Greece, including: Athens, Crete
and Thessaloniki.
From the airport, the regular bus service to Rhodes town centre operates throughout
the day from 06:00 to 22:30 and costs €2. Taxis are readily available and
cost about €14 to the town centre.
Rhodes is a major port with sea links not only to Athens, Crete and the islands
of the Aegean, but also to Cyprus, Turkey and Israel. Ferry is the only other
option for getting to Rhodes; however, with the typical sailing time from Piraeus
in Athens on a standard ferry taking 28 hours, it's not very efficient.
Ferries to Cyprus and Israel also stop at Rhodes. If, however, you happen to
be coming from one of the other Dodecanese islands such as Kos, Tilos, Nissiros
and Simi in the late spring to summer time, there are daily high-speed catamaran
or hydrofoil ferries running the routes, weather permitting.
