Mini guide to Belfast
    
One third of Northern Ireland's population of live in the Belfast area, with
the city itself the capital of the North. Belfast city offers a range of sites
for the visitor, including the magnificent Victorian style Grand Opera House,
neo-renaissance City Hall which dominates Donegall square, the legendary Belfast
Liquor Saloon and the prestigious Queens University. By contrast, West Belfast
reveals the legacy of the areas embattled Northern Irish history.
The adjacent countryside of County Antrim boasts one of the most spectacular
coastlines in Northern Ireland and offers a variety of attractions, both historical
and natural, for those willing to explore the area outside the city.
Belfast can easily explored by foot and north of Donegall Place and Royal Avenue
is the shopping area of Belfast. Further northeast, you can wander about the
recently redeveloped Cathedral Quarter and the Entries, with their pedestrian
walkways, pub-lined alleyways and trendy restaurants. Further south, along Dublin
Road, you will find the Golden Mile entertainment area filled with restaurants
and bars.
In November, the city hosts the Belfast Craft Village, Northern Ireland's largest
and most diverse craft event. The event takes place in the Victorian St. Georges
Market, which dates back to 1896. The event attracts over 200 displays of crafts,
food, health items and more. St. Georges Market also holds markets every week
on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Belfast can be reached via a variety of transport options: air, rail, coach
and ferry. Two airports service Belfast, with both international and domestic
connections, as well as various cities in Britain. Coach and train connections
within Ireland are also very efficient, with numerous bus connection throughout
Eire. Ferries and high-speed catamarans frequently link Northern Ireland to
Britain.
