Mini guide to Dublin

Dublin city, bisected by the River Liffey, is Ireland's vibrant capital city which offers the visitor plenty to see and explore. Both medieval and Georgian, as well as modern architecture provide a wonderful setting for this bustling port city, which also was the home of several celebrated writers.

Dublin is home to much of Ireland's cultural heritage, with magnificent public buildings such as Trinity College, Leinster House, and the Bank of Ireland as showcases. A walk around Merrion Square and Fitzwilliam Square illustrate some of the city's finest Georgian architecture.

There is just as much to do at night, as there is to do during the day. Dublin boasts to have some of the best pub and club scenes in Europe - everything from trendy bars to established pubs. As a metropolitan city, Dublin offers a range of cuisines - local and international -, excellent theatre, concerts jazz clubs and traditional folk music.

On the north side of the city is O'Connell Street, which is the major thoroughfare. Off O'Connell Street, Henry Street, leading to Mary Street, is one of the city's biggest shopping streets. The Temple Bar area is a popular hangout, where cobbled streets are lined with pubs, clubs, galleries, restaurants and trendy shops.

The main access hub is Dublin International Airport, which is located just outside the city centre. The airport offers direct connections to most large cites in Europe, as well as the US and UK. Dublin can also be reached via ferry or by train from one of the two mainline stations in the city.
