Geography of Dublin
    
Dublin is located on the east coast of Ireland in Leinster and Dublin county
encompasses the city of Dublin and the areas: Fingal, South Dublin and Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown.
Roughly 2 percent of Ireland's population lives in Dublin county.
As a coastal county, Dublin borders the Irish Sea to the east and with County
Meath to the north, County Kildare to the east and County Wicklow to the south.
Dublin city is located midway between north and south on the east coast of Ireland,
in Leinster. Dublin's city centre is bisected by the River Liffey, flowing west
to east into Dublin Bay. This river creates a natural north-south divide, with
the commercial centre mainly situated on the south side, including the Central
Bank, although some of Dublin's finest buildings are on the north side, such
as the Customs House and the Four Courts. The Dodder and Tolka are two other
rivers of note.
Canals ring the city centre, with the Royal Canal forming a skirt through the
north half and the Grand Canal the south half.
To the south of the city is the lovely Wicklow hills, along the coast within
easy reach of Dublin are the towns of Howth, Malahide and Bray. Beyond the city
limits the countryside soon turns to lovely rolling hills covered in the proverbial
'emerald' colour for which the country is noted.
