Travelling to Pisa

Travellers accessing the city by car can take the Florence-Pisa autostrada
along the Arno valley. Or, take the SS12 or S12r from Lucca. The A12 comes down
the coast from the north, and the SS1 runs north and south along the coast.
If you need parking, try the area just outside Porta Santa Maria, either along
Via A Pisano (1.05 Euros per hour, 08:00-20:00) or in the nearby lot at Via
C S Cammeo 51 (which charges the same day rates and €.25 at night).
There are more than 20 trains daily to Pisa from Rome (duration: three hours).
From Florence, 35 daily trains make the trip (1 hour, 30 minutes). Three to
four trains an hour run from Livorno (15 minutes) and there are trains running
approximately every hour from Siena (1 hour, 50 minutes). All trains eventually
pull into Pisa Centrale station. From here, bus no. 1, 3 or 11 will take you
to Piazza del Duomo.
Lazzi, Via d'Azeglio, runs hourly buses from Florence (2 hours, 30 minutes)
but you have to connect through Lucca (hourly runs, 20-30 minutes). Via Nino
Bixio has routes from Volterra: 10 daily connect through Pontenedra for the
2 hour, 30 minute trip. The bus station is at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, just
north of the main train station.
Tuscany's main international airport, Galileo Galilei is just 3kms south of
Pisa. It services most major international and domestic carriers. Trains zip
you downtown to the train station in five minutes for just €0.90; while
a taxi ride to town will set you back €8.
