Travelling to Turin
Driving to Turin is easy. The A4 leads in from Milan and Venice; the A5 comes
from Ivrea and Aosta; and the A6 arrives from Fossano, Ceva and Savona. If you're
coming from Asti, Alessandria or Genoa, take the A21 to Turin; -Arrivals from
France come via the A32.
Turin's central rail station is located in the town centre, making it easy
to reach by public transport. It services trains from all across Europe as well
as from within Italy. The station faces the lovely Piazza Carlo Felice and houses
car rental agencies, a restaurant, news stands, shops, cash dispensers, tobacconists
and bars. Main lines service Milan, Verona, Bolzano and the Brenner Pass in
the direction of Austria and Germany; Venice, Trieste, Alessandria, Genoa, Rome,
Naples and Reggio Calabria; Bardonecchia-Modane, Paris and France; Cuneo, Savona
and Ventimille towards France; Aosta; Pinerolo and Torre Pellice.
The Città di Torino Airport (Sandro Pertini), open to commercial and
international traffic, is 16kms northwest of the town centre. It is the natural
arrival point for international tourists, especially during the winter season,
when travellers make the connection to the splendid mountain resorts of Piedmont
and the Valley of Aosta. A continuous coach service operates at the airport
for Turin, making several stops en route, including Porta Nuova main railway
station. A one-way fare is 5 Euros and the journey takes 40 minutes. A new railway
links the airport to Turin and departures are every 30 minutes.
