St. Pauls Bay Hotels
Mini guide to St. Pauls Bay
The resort of St Paul's Bay, located 17.6kms northwest of Valetta, is probably
Malta's most popular resort. With a pleasant old town reminiscent of the long
ago Malta, and its sleepy fishing village that seems to have been stuck in some
kind of time warp, St Paul's Bay is a pleasant holiday destination.
Unfortunately, St Paul's Bay is without sandy beaches; nevertheless, there
is good sunbathing from large, flat rocks or the hotels' seaside lidos. You
will have to go to nearby Bugibba if you're looking for water sports and beach
activities. The closest sandy beach is located at Golden Bay, 9kms from Bugibba.
The area of Bugibba is highly built up, and choked with tourist-class hotels
and apartment blocks. The area is packed all year round with people looking
for bargains in the many shops. At night, the bars and discos create a vibrant
atmosphere.
Local excursions include a trip over to the resort of Qawra; this area is filled
with shops along the wide seafront. The promenade is always lively, being home
to a fine selection of restaurants offering a mix of local and international
cuisine.
As is synonymous with Maltese resorts, the nightlife in this area seems indefatigable.
The best discos and liveliest bars are all in Bugibba; while many of the larger
hotels in St Paul's Bay boast evening grills, followed by floorshows.
Mainland Europe has the best access to Malta. Air Malta has flights between
the main island and a host of other European cities. It also has flights between
Malta and Cairo, Dubai, Damascus and Tunis. Other carriers with service to Malta
include Alitalia, KLM, Lufthansa, Swissair and Tunisavia. Malta International
Airport is located about 17.6kms from St Paul's Bay; buses, taxis and rental
cars are available.
