Leading European online travel agents, ebookers.com, announced today that it will begin a new low-carbon scheme designed to reduce the travel website’s carbon footprint. The firm’s new partnership with Carbon Clear, a global leader in carbon management, will help to catalyse the firm’s launch as a greener company. Carbon Clear will now offer ebookers users the ability to buy top-quality carbon offset credits from a host of its portfolio projects within developing countries.

Holidaymakers can now use ebookers.com to calculate the amount of emissions their flight or car hire travel will put out. Then using the calculations, travellers can purchase the appropriate amount of carbon credits to offset their journey.

Produced by Carbon Clear’s Clean Stove project located in the Sudan and a Geothermal project located in Indonesia, the money garnered from the carbon offset credits will be put towards furthering infrastructure on renewable energy and improving energy saving initiatives.

Mark Chadwick, CEO of Carbon Clear, said: “Carbon Clear is delighted to partner with ebookers on this exciting new carbon offsetting initiative. ebookers customers now have the opportunity to offset their travel emissions by supporting carbon projects that make a real difference to communities in the developing world.”

President of ebookers,Tamer Tamar commented that: “The partnership with Carbon Clear is part of our larger green pledge that we hope other online travel agents will follow. We are aware that consumers care deeply about the impact they have on the environment. By offering an opportunity for holidaymakers to offset their carbon footprint, we enable our customers to contribute to our green pledge and help them travel happy.”
