“Green” Tourists Can Access Emissions Records Online

by Emily DUNBAR on August 19, 2009

Car rental giant, Europcar, which is Europe’s largest car hire agency, is now allowing customers concerned with the environment to research emission ratings for its vehicles.   The new website will allow customers worried about increasingly high gas prices to check their car’s fuel efficiency, and those looking to help the environment can make sure that they are driving a car which doesn’t pollute with an excess of harmful emissions.

“With cost cutting at the top of the Agenda for many UK households and businesses, using cars that are more fuel efficient has got to be a key priority. This initiative means our customers can make more informed choices about the vehicles they rent and, as a result, help them reduce fuel consumption and contribute to an overall reduction in CO2 emissions,” Europcar marketing director, Catriona Lougher said in a statement earlier this week.

The poor economy has actually benefitted some areas of the travel industry, specifically car hire, which expects to do well in the upcoming months as more Britons choose to make their holidays within the UK, instead of expensive travel abroad.  Europcar is one of many companies hoping to increase the value of their product by expanding its online services.

The website hopes to take advantage of these “staycationers” by directing them towards cars that can save them money, including the Ford Ka, one of its most fuel efficient and “green” options for car hire.
