by Alister POOLE on October 20, 2009

Budget carrier Jet2 has announced the commencement of a new service to Tenerife in Spain. The new route will be operational from may 2010, and will connect East Midlands airport to the sunny Spanish destination.

Tenerife is a popular destination with British tourists, with a high rate of return travellers among the Brits. Families from the UK tend to return here year after year, for their week or two of sunshine. This has made Britain one of the most significant markets for incoming tourism to Tenerife.

More than 900,000 tourists from UK and Ireland have already visited Tenerife in the current year so far. Tenerife’s rich choice of attractions and entertainment options makes this an ideal destination for families with youngsters. The Spanish holiday destination also offers  wide selection of accommodation choices, ranging from budget to luxurious.

With prices for the new route to be provided by Jet2 starting at 67 euros for each leg, the airline is expecting a high demand for its flights. While the service will only begin in May 2010, bookings for the tickets are already open, the airline has advised.

Jet2 connects the East Midlands airport with a number of other destinations on existing routes. The airline provides flights to the Canary Islands, Turkey, Corfu, Greece, and Egypt.
