London most expensive party city

London has replaced the French capital Paris as the world’s most expensive city for a night out, as suggested by a survey from TripAdvisor.

The average cost of a night out in London – consisting of a one day stay at a four-star hotel, two-course dinner, a bottle of wine, cocktails, and a taxi journey home of at least four miles - is £330,   the travel website found. This can be compared with Oslo in Norway, the world’s second most expensive city in terms of night life entertainment, at £320.

Last year, Paris had been voted as the world’s most expensive night life city in a similar study. In 2012, the French capital came in at fourth place while Zurich in Switzerland took the number three slot. Surprisingly, America’s largest city, New York, hit sixth place in the survey.

According to TripAdvisor, Hanoi in Vietnam is the cheapest night life city in the world, with costs of  just under £90 for the same necessities as the evening out in London. The expert travel website had tracked costs of a night out in more than 20 cities in the world that are seen as key tourist havens.

Remarkably, an astonishing seven of the top ten most expensive cities that TripAdvisor looked at are located in Europe. On the other hand though, rather unsurprisingly, four Southeast Asian cities made up the top ten cheapest night life cities. Namely, they were Bangkok in Thailand, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Jakarta in Indonesia, and Hanoi in Vietnam.
