Prince William and Kate the subject of new London tour

by Alister POOLE on January 3, 2011

As the media frenzy surrounding soon-to-be wed Kate Middleton and Prince William ensues, one London-based tour operator has taken advantage of the growing wedding fever.

Celebrity Planet, owned by Newcastle University grad James Bonney, is offering a two-hour London tour of all the hotspots pertinent to William and Kate’s eight-year courtship. The celebrity tour offers a look at several sites based around William and Kate’s relationship and some that are sentimental for the Prince’s mother and father.

The tour starts off at Bruton Street and carries on to Albemarle Street, chronicling Prince William’s life with Kate Middleton as well as Prince Charles history with the late Princess Diana. Included among the stops is the Royal jewellers Garrad, where Diana’s blue sapphire engagement ring was made. The 30-year old gem now adorns Ms Middleton’s third finger.

Additionally, visitors will see Kate’s paternal great-grandfather’s solicitor office on Albemarle Street and a clothes shop, Jigsaw, shows a display of Kate’s career trajectory. The two-hour trip also heads past White’s Gentlemen’s Club, where Prince Charles spent his last night as a bachelor before his wedding to Princess Diana.

Mr Bonney was asked if he was worried someone would copy his idea, but he simply responded that the idea of celebrity-based tours was not new. He mentioned the popular Harry Potter guided-tours as an example.
