Scenic Tours raises river cruise bar

by Ella FAIRCHILD on April 27, 2012

River cruise expert Scenic Tours has announced it will  introduce unlimited complimentary drinks for all of its passengers next year.

The new policy had been revealed during the maiden voyage of the Scenic Crystal, Scenic Tours’ latest vessel, at a christening ceremony held in the German town of Rüdesheim. Scenic Tours’ managing director, Mr Glen Moroney, commented that the decision to provide guests with free drinks throughout a journey – and not just when meals are served – comes as part of the outfit’s pledge to begin providing an all-inclusive cruising experience.

Moroney explained that there will be no charges for meals or Wi-Fi access and guests will be able to take their pick from a wide range of free drinks, served by a butler, which includes spirits and wines. It was added that restrictions will apply as guest should not expect free Dom Perignon.

The move from Scenic Tours follows an introduction of complimentary drinks policies on a string of ocean-travelling cruise lines such as Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, Hebridean Island Cruises, SeaDream Yacht Club, and Silversea.  Representing the Passenger Shipping Association, Penny Guy, said that the introduction of free drinks illustrates the increasing choices offered to people wishing to cruise.

The river cruising market seems to be expanding at present, with recent figures showing that 80,000 Britons embarked on a European river crease last year – a seven per cent improve when compared to last year.
