Sixt Shows Second Quarter Surge in Car Rental

by Ella FAIRCHILD on September 7, 2009

Coming on the heels of being named world’s best car rental company in a Travel and Leisure magazine, the announcement that business is up for Sixt car rental is making 2009 a pretty amazing year for the industry leader.  The car hire industry as a whole has seen drastic drops in numbers over the last two years as the plummeting economy, and more recently, concerns over the bird flu, have made for less travel around the world.  With the travel industry floundering and many wondering about its future, the announcement that Sixt is doing well comes as a surprise to some.

The company reported that its revenue is up nearly eight percent and that demand for business leasing and car rentals was very high in the second quarter of 2009.  The company attributes some of the increase in revenue to the fact that it slimmed down its operations, actually cutting some of its fleet last year.

This is in addition to come of the more creative ideas the company has had, including its online customer service program, which has been a big success, especially in the United Kingdom.  Because of the awards they’ve won and the fact that the company continues to make money even in this economy has Sixt rent a car looking optimistically towards the future.
