Best Western Hotels
Best Western International is the largest hotel company in the
world operating under a single brand name, with over 300 member
hotels in the United Kingdom and over 4,000 hotels (300,000 rooms)
in 80 countries worldwide. Best Western has been a cornerstone in
US markets for 56 years and in Europe for 26 years.
Best Western was founded in 1946 by M.K. Guertin, a California-based
hotelier with 23 years of experience in the lodging industry. Best
Western International began as an informal referral system among
member hotels. By 1963, Best Western was the largest chain in the
industry, with 699 member hotels and 35,201 rooms. In 1964, when
Canadian hotel owners joined the system, Best Western took the first
step toward global expansion. Best Western entered Mexico, Australia
and New Zealand in 1976, further establishing its international
presence.
Best Western International is the most unique brand in the industry.
Nowhere else will you find hotels that were formerly castles built
by Napoleon or hotels that comprise part of a drive-in movie theatre.
All of Best Western's member hotels are independently-owned and
managed, featuring their own personality and charm. They guarantee
consistently high levels of quality and service while ensuring guests
have a unique and enjoyable experience.
Nearly 80 percent of Best Western hotels in Europe receive three-
or four-star ratings. The hotels within the Best Western portfolio
are predominately three-star rated, however a fine collection of
quality two- and four-star hotels are also included in the group.
Each hotel has to achieve an above average rating within its star
classification to achieve or retain membership within Best Western.
Recently, Best Western made first-time hotel ventures into New Caledonia,
Macedonia and Yemen.
