Malmaison is named after the Chateau on the outskirts of Paris that Napoleon famously decorated for Josephine in a bid to keep her love. The first Malmaison opened in Edinburgh in September 1994. Malmaison is owned by London-based Marylebone Warwick Balfour Group PLC (MWB). Currently MWB owns nine operating hotels throughout the United Kingdom and a further two properties are presently under construction. At the heart of the portfolio is the wholly-owned and highly acclaimed Malmaison group of lifestyle hotels. In October 2002, a new 189-bed Malmaison was opened in Birmingham,
close to the city centre. In addition to Birmingham and Charterhouse
Square, agreements have been exchanged on an exciting 87-room Malmaison
being developed in the centre of Oxford, which is expected to open
