Travelling to Alicante

Travelling by car is a popular choice for many visitors as the roads are well marked, pleasant to drive and very scenic. Alicante is on the A-7 motorway to the French border. The national route N-340 connects to Valencia and Barcelona and the dual carriageway extends to Murcia and Madrid.

From mainland Europe, it is also convenient to reach Spain via train, catching a direct coach to Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia or Murcia from most major European cities. The coastal trip is particularly scenic, passing through many urban and rural areas you wouldn't see otherwise. High-speed passenger trains also ply the route from London's Waterloo Station via the Euro tunnel to Paris, Lille and Brussels.

Alternatively, though not as reliable, visitors can travel by bus, as both local and long-haul services operate from Alicante. Direct lines to the Balearics and Algiers are also available by sea.

For those arriving by air, El Altet International Airport is the most convenient choice, located just 10kms southwest of the city centre. The airport offers connections from Alicante to all major national and international destinations and also receives chartered holiday flights. Flying time from London is 2 hours, 30 minutes.
