Travelling to Costa Del Sol

The Costa del Sol is located in the region of Andalusia in the southern part of Spain on the Mediterranean Sea. The E5 and A7 highways service the region from Madrid and Barcelona respectively. You can typically drive to Malaga in 5 hours, 30 minutes (532kms) from Madrid, and 10 hours (over 1,000kms) from Barcelona.

Trains arrive from many major European cities, terminating at either Atocha or Chamartin stations in Madrid, south of the city centre. From there, high-speed, AVE trains go to Malaga in Andalusia and other areas of Spain. To get to other towns and cities in the region, take a cercanía (regional) train.

Daibus, among many others, runs a regular service from Madrid's Estacion sur de Autobuses, south of the city centre, to Malaga and other towns on the Costa del Sol. A typical journey would take over six hours to Malaga and cost a lot less than the train.

The region's main airport is Malaga International, which receives the most air traffic. Other regional airports, which are a lot more expensive to reach directly and have more infrequent flights, include: Almería, Seville, Jerez de la Frontera and Gibraltar. There is a rail terminal at Malaga International Airport; regular 30-minute trains service all towns as far as Fuengirola.
