Lanzarote is notable for its bizarre volcanic landscape, resorts soaked in sunshine, golden beaches and easy-going atmosphere. It's also a quieter alternative to other destinations in the Canary Islands. Puerto del Carmen provides the nightlife for the island, but in a much more controlled manner than elsewhere in the Canaries.

The extensive network of walking trails gives visitors the chance to enjoy Lanzarote's stunning landscape and vegetation. The area is so unique that walking has become very popular with visitors to the island.

By car, you can visit and explore many attractions including: the Cesar Manrique Foundation, Jardin de Cactus, El Golfo, La Laguna de los Ciclos and the inland villages. Also, Timanfaya National Park is a must-see for any visitor to Lanzarote; it boasts 50kms of amazing volcanic landscape, lunar-like craters and rare plant species. A novelty meal can be had at El Diablo Restaurant where traditional Canarian food is cooked in a natural volcanic oven.

The rightly famous area of Papagayo is in the southeast corner of Lanzarote. It is an area of such great natural beauty that no construction is allowed there. Papagayo consists of half a dozen beautiful golden beaches interspersed with rocky headlands. The beaches have the reputation of being some of the most beautiful in the whole of Spain and the Spanish islands.

The most notorious event on Lanzarote was also one of the world's most devastating and longest volcanic eruptions which lasted from September 1730 until April 1736. Within just eight square kilometres, 25 volcanoes erupted and the area where the eruptions took place is now Timanfaya National Park.

You can fly to the Canaries from most European cities, sometimes stopping over in Spain. Transatlantic visitors usually arrive via a European stopover. There are also plenty of package deals and charter flights arriving here, and inter-island flights are numerous.
