Travelling to Magaluf - Majorca

Magaluf is situated southwest of the capital city Palma, on the island of Majorca in the Balearic chain. The island is located about 200kms from Barcelona and 145kms from Valencia in the Mediterranean Sea.

Majorca's airport is the Son Sant Joan International Airport, about 10kms east of Palma. Iberia flies daily to Palma from Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid. Span Air flies into Palma from Barcelona (up to three times a day during summer) and from Madrid, Bilbao, Minorca, Santiago de Compostela, Malaga and Tenerife. Air Europa flies to Palma from Barcelona a maximum of two times a day during peak season; to a lesser extent it flies to Palma from Madrid, Minorca, Ibiza and Seville.

Flights to Son Sant Joan go from many European and world cities but the majority are charter flights with package tour companies. Booking with these firms usually gives you a free transfer to your destination and return to the airport.

You can reach Magaluf by bus from the airport but need to change in Palma. Take the number 17 from the airport to Palma; it leaves every 15 minutes from 06:00 to 21:30 and every 30 minutes afterwards, taking roughly 30 minutes. Change to bus number 10 from Palma to Paguera, which stops at Magaluf and runs all day. Taking a bus is obviously the cheapest option at about 4 Euros. Taxis are a lot more expensive at about 25 Euros but only take around 20 minutes and can be shared.

There are two to five ferries daily from Barcelona; the trip takes 8 hours and costs 47 Euros one way. From Valencia there are six ferries per week from Monday to Saturday, taking 7 hours and costing the same. The company operating the ferries is Transmediterranea, Estacio Maritim in Palma, and tickets can be bought at the office from the terminal in Barcelona or from any travel agent.
