Travelling to Malaga

For the motorist, the highways in Spain are well developed, safe and easy to negotiate.
The coastal roads are perfect for people driving through Spain at a leisurely
pace, and afford excellent views and stunning countryside scenery. Accidents,
however, are common on N-340 Costa del Sol and often cause long delays. From Torremolinos
and Marbella, you can drive east along the N-340/E-15 to Malaga. If you're coming
from the east at the end of the Costa del Sol, take the N-340/E-15 west to Malaga.
Travelling by rail is also convenient, and a popular choice for those plying
the southern route towards the Costa del Sol. Domestic rail services in Spain
are renowned for their reliability, efficiency and value for money. The Talgo
or the fast AVE trains offer particularly scenic journeys. Services are regular
down the coast from the major centres of Barcelona and Madrid. The journey from
Madrid to Malaga is approximately 4 hours.
Bus, despite affordable prices and the well established European and domestic
network, is the least popular means of transport for the majority of visitors,
as distances are long and journeys can be arduous. Also, tickets typically cannot
be purchased in advance. The Daibus service offers a cheap and reliable service
from the Costa del Sol to Madrid. Buses leave from Marbella and take you directly
to Madrid in about 8 hours.
For those arriving by air, Malaga International Airport is the most convenient
choice. One of the busiest hubs in Spain, the airport is serviced by frequent
flights from all major European cities. Domestic connections are frequent and
include flights to and from the Balearic Islands. The city is easily accessible
from the airport, with regular taxis plying the route. Alternatively, frequent
trains run to Fuengirola, where taxis and buses can take you to Malaga.
Daily ferries ply the route to Malaga from the northern African town of Melilla,
and the journey takes approximately 8 hours.
