What to see by car: Malaga

Many interesting and exciting daytrips can be made from the city to further discover the province of Malaga and the Andalusia area. Andalusia has over 800kms of sandy coastline. There are beaches to suit all tastes - from wide open golden sands typical of the Costa de la Luz and Costa del Sol region, to private hidden coves only reachable by windy paths or tracks down cliffs typical of the Costa Tropical.

The coastline's warm clear waters allow for a multitude of water sports and recreational activities, especially scuba diving and snorkelling. Farther west from Malaga, the province of Cadiz is renowned for its good wind surfing, particularly in the town of Tarifa. From Cadiz, visitors can also visit the Rock of Gibraltar.

Also, to the southwest of Malaga, there are many coastal villages renowned for their beaches and laid-back lifestyles. Worth visiting are Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fungiola.

Still farther southwest, golf enthusiasts can reach some of Spain's most popular golf courses, located in the region between Marbella and Estapona. Marbella is renowned as an exclusive seaside resort, and is home to an abundance of luxurious yachts, expensive restaurants and designer shops.

Heading east from Malaga, there are many quaint traditional Andalusian villages typified by their white houses. Nerja is a popular choice for its beautiful sea views and 3,000-year-old caves full of colossal stalactites. Mijas village is similarly interesting and can be reached heading inland towards Torremolinos. Many donkey taxis are employed to tour visitors around town.

For urbanites, the cities of Granada and Seville are easily accessible and offer an abundance of cultural and entertainment activities.
