Santaigo del Teide sits on Tenerife's picturesque western coast and features the three popular resorts of Los Gigantes, Puerto de Santiago and Playa de la Arena. The area is famed for its scenery and exceptional climate.

One of the major sights in Santiago del Teide is the rugged imposing cliffs of Los Gigantes (The Giants), which stand as sentinels against the vast Atlantic Ocean and also mark the southern boundary of the scenic Teno Mountains. The other major draw for the region is the beaches, particularly the black volcanic sand of Playa de la Arena, which means 'sandy beach'.

The resorts are ideal for walking around, and there is a walkable coastal road linking the three. In the beautiful and upmarket Los Gigantes, you can walk atop the sea wall which surrounds the small marina.

Although lacking the excesses of the tourist towns on the island's southern coast, Santiago del Teide boasts many options for the fun-seeker. For a relatively small resort, Playa de la Arena boasts a mind-boggling array of bars and restaurants of all shapes and sizes, including clubs and discos nearly on par with their southern cousins. For authentic food and shopping, Puerto de Santiago is the best bet, as this town has a large number of local residents.

At the marina in Los Gigantes, you will find boats taking visitors out to see the dolphin and whale colonies which live between the west coast of Tenerife and the neighbouring island of La Gomera.

Tenerife is the only Canary island with two airports. Los Rodeos Airport is situated in the north of the island near La Laguna, while Reina Sofia Airport is in the south near the Costa del Silencio, a few kilometres from Las Americas/Los Cristianos. There is a weekly ferry from the southern Spanish port of Cádiz, as well as regular inter-island ferries.
