What to see by car: Seville

The remains of the Roman city of Italica are a must-see; they are located in the town of what is today Santiponce, 10 minutes from the city. Some of the site has been excavated and wandering among the ruins is interesting. Nearby, Monasterio de San Isidoro del Campo was a great institute of learning during Spain's golden age.

You can reach the National Park of Donana in about an hour, driving along the Autova (motorway) de los Descubrimientos in the direction of Huelva. It is the largest avian reserve in Europe, located next to the river's mouth, on the right-hand bank. The park's richness is the result of good climatic conditions and its geographical location along the bird migration routes.
The Río Guadalquivir was once of maritime importance; however, today it offers a pleasant stroll among the several modern, architecturally interesting suspension bridges erected in time for the 1992 World Expo. Across the river are the Expo grounds, with some interesting features amid several historic Moorish buildings.
South of the city centre, Antigua Fábrica de Tabacos is a massive defunct tobacco factory with an interesting, wealthy history.

The beauty and architectural splendour of nearby Granada is such that the entire city has been declared a national monument. This alluring city is most famous for its exquisite example of Moorish architecture, the breathtakingly beautiful Alhambra. The Sierra Nevada mountain range, with its snow-topped peaks provides an impressive backdrop.

Cordoba is another historically interesting town, as are Malaga and Marbella, if you can see your way through all the tourists of the Costa del Sol.
