Travelling to Stockholm

Getting to Stockholm by car is relatively easy because the major national expressway
from the south, the E4, joins with the national expressway, the E3, coming in
from the west, and leads right into the heart of the city. Stay on the highway
until you see the turnoff for central Stockholm.
Stockholm is a rail hub for Sweden's SJ national service; trains run from the
Centralstationen to Copenhagen, Osla, Storlien (for Trondheim) and Narvik.
Several bus companies run a national network, and the City terminalen is next
to the Central stationen. There are regular services to points all over Sweden,
Norway and Finland, but they are concentrated more in the south. Long distance
buses travel via ferry to cities all over Europe.
Stockholm is a little out of the way, and visitors from outside of Europe may
find it easier to arrive via Frankfurt, Amsterdam or London. The city's Arlanda
International Airport is 42kms north of the city and mostly services regional
flights, with several flights a day to Helsinki, Oslo, Gothenburg and Copenhagen.
SAS, the national carrier does fly several transatlantic routes, along with
other selected airlines; there are also limited flights to Asian destinations.
Connections to Scandinavian destinations are numerous. From the airport, regular
buses and shuttles can take you to the city centre.
Silja Line ferries depart for Helsinki and Turku from Vortahamnen. Viking Line
ferries sail to Turku and Helsinki from the terminal at Tegelvikshamn.
