Mini guide to Port El Kantaoui
Port El Kantaoui in Tunisia is a first rate resort town, built from the ground
up with the tourist in mind. Beyond the beach and myriad of daytime activities,
it offers excellent shopping, dining, nightlife, water sports, and even a casino
if you care to try your luck.
The weather is exceptional from April to November, and the beaches have excellent
amenities. Once you're well relaxed, you might want to try horseback riding,
windsurfing, sailing, jet-skiing, waterskiing, scuba diving or a glass-bottomed
boat tour. There are also some championship golf courses nearby, and Casino
Caraibe offers machines, tables and shows.
The beach is stunning, and the village is its perfect complement. Built in
classic Tunisian style, the medina is a great place to shop or go for an afternoon
stroll. With its cobbled streets and excellent views of the nearby marina, it
is the perfect place to have a cool drink and admire the beautiful yachts. Restaurants
offer a nice variety of food, with a focus on fresh seafood.
Sousse, Tunisia's third-largest city, is only a short taxi or tourist train
ride from Port El Kantaoui, and it is here that you can see the real Tunisia.
In the medina, try your bidding skills for some nice souvenirs, or head to the
Soula Centre for modern shops with fixed prices. For a cultural evening, try
a Bedouin feast.
The Roman ruins of Dougga are well preserved and showcase the area's importance
in antiquity. Tunisia's first wild animal park, Friguia Park, is also nearby.
If you'd like to take a safari, trips are easily organized to El Djem or Kairouan
and usually last two days. Carthage, Tunis and the pleasant village of Sidi
Bou Said are all within driving range.
Bus transport to Port el Kantaoui from Sousse is regular. Sousse is well served
from every major Tunisian city by rail, bus and taxi. Monastir Airport is only
20kms from Port El Kantaoui.
