Olu Deniz in Turkey offers a perfect mix of natural beauty, culture and entertainment
to suit any personality. Whether you prefer lounging on a stunning lagoon or would
like to try an adrenalin pumping white-water rafting trip, Olu Deniz fits the
bill.
The main attraction in Olu Deniz is the famous Blue Lagoon, which is quite
possibly the most aesthetic spot in the country. Its deep shades of blue are
most impressive and the water is completely safe for swimming. The lagoon is
surrounded by a white sand beach - the perfect place to soak up some sun. Located
in a national park, the lagoon is surrounded by hills that, with a little exploring,
offer fantastic views of the surrounding area.
The town is heavily influenced by beach life, so the pace here is quite comfortable.
Most of the town's attractions are near the beach front, along with a variety
of shops, cafés and bars. Surprisingly, the traditional life of the town
is not overrun by tourism.
If you need a day off from the beach, there are many options. Extreme sports
popular in the area include: white-water rafting, scuba diving, bungee jumping
and paragliding. The White Dolphin restaurant, with its sunset view, is recommended.
For entertainment after dark, check out Help! or Soho in town, or Hisaronu overlooking
the town.
Saklikent Gorge ('hidden city' in Turkish), is the country's longest and deepest
canyon, and makes for a great daytrip. The rock formations in the canyon resemble
a high-rise district, and provide welcome shade on most of the paths. There
is a cool stream at the bottom that makes the walk pleasant even on a hot day.
Fethiye is the nearest town at only 15kms away, and offers a great deal more
shopping and dining options, as well as a market on Tuesdays.
Fethiye is serviced by most bus companies in Turkey, and is the necessary stopover
on the way to Olu Deniz. Dalaman Airport is only 45 minutes away, and Antalya
Airport is 2 hours, 30 minutes away by car.
