Geography of Aberdeen Airport
Aberdeen Airport's location makes it the perfect gateway to the highland beauty
of the Grampian Highlands and Royal Deeside, Scotland's castle and whiskey country.
Sparkling, pristine rivers and misty, undulating mountain ranges provide a spectacular
setting for numerous outdoor activities or just a relaxing drive. Golf is hugely
popular, with some 69 golf courses scattered throughout the area.
Take a drive along Scotland's only Castle Trail, which reveals 11 unique castles
spread throughout northeast Scotland. The drive itself is spectacular, especially
during autumn when the countryside is lit up in shades of red and gold. Also
popular is the Malt Whiskey Trail, which takes you through picturesque countryside
to charming little villages and traditional distilleries.
Besides the Scottish highlands, Aberdeen also provides immediate access to
the unspoilt coastline of northeast Scotland. Small seaside communities are
dotted all along the coast, offering a friendly atmosphere, breathtaking scenery,
abundant wildlife and colourful paintwork used to protect their houses from
the salty winds.
The roads in the area are well maintained and congestion-free, and are the
most popular way to see the beautiful countryside. The A96 takes you through
the highlands to Inverness while the A90 hugs the coast north to Peterhead and
south to Dundee and beyond. Several care hire companies, including Avis, Budget,
Europcar and Hertz, all operate out of Aberdeen Airport.
