Located in Hampshire, southern England, Basingstoke is roughly half-way between
the east and west ends of the South Coast. Hampshire Dorset and Wiltshire lies
to the South, Berkshire to the North and by county Berkshire and Surrey and
West Sussex to the East. Most of Hampshire's southern coastline is on the Solent,
the strait separating mainland Britain from the Isle of Wight.
Only 52 miles from London, Basingstoke is easily reachable by the main-line
railway, as well as by coach and motorway links. From London, take the M4 motorway
then connect with the M3 motorway and continue straight on to Basingstoke.
Coaches leave London's Victoria coach station for Basingstoke several times
daily, while the Basingstoke bus terminal serves points all over Britain.
From London Waterloo, trains depart four times an hour throughout the day (duration
30 minutes), and there are also connections from Basingstoke to the South coast
and Reading in the North - which make the West country and Wales easily accessible.
