Geography of Basingstoke

Basingstoke is located in Hampshire, one of Britain's prettiest counties. It is also a mere 52kms from London. While the city itself is somewhat iver-developed, it sits among pretty rolling hills and enjoys close proximity to Hampshire's draw cards: the historic New Forest and lovely coastline. Hampshire comprises mostly of rolling hills, woodlands, charming villages, ancient churches, thatched cottages, old village houses converted into quaint hotels and delightful country pubs.

Hampshire encompasses the South Downs, the Isle of Wight (Queen Victoria's favourite retreat), and the naval city of Portsmouth. More than 90,000 acres of the New Forest were preserved by William the Conqueror as a private hunting ground; this vast woodland and heath remains ideal for walking, camping and exploring.
