Mini guide to Bath

Bath has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and boasts some
of the finest architectural sights in Europe. The city takes a real pride in
sharing its heritage, which can be explored in a variety of 40 museums, galleries,
gardens and attractions. The city is also one of the most popular tourist attractions
in Britain, largely due to its stately appearance and ancient Roman Baths.
One of the highlights of the year is the Bath Festival of Music and the Arts,
held in May and June, which attracts people from all over the world to watch
ballet, concerts and plays, and to attend lectures.
Water has always been important to Bath's heritage. The Roman Baths and the
temple were built around the thermal springs, which have been constantly supplying
warm therapeutic water for over 2,000 years. In fact, Bath has the only natural
hot springs in Britain. The River Avon, which runs through the city, is beautiful,
with boat rides offering a nice diversion from exploring the area by foot. The
Kennet and Avon canal is one of the most picturesque in Britain and the towpath
provides a tranquil setting for walkers, fishermen, canoeists and cyclists alike.
Bath offers a truly international range of restaurants, including Asian, European,
American and Middle-Eastern, and during the summer season it is recommended
to make reservations ahead of time. IN addition to the cluster of international-standard
restaurant sand atmospheric pubs in the city centre, there are also traditional
country inns offering something more rustic. Bath also has several night clubs
and late night bars for more lively entertainment.
This tourist city is easily accessible via train or bus from London. Access
via car is also convenient, connected to London by the A4. The closest airport
to Bath is Bristol International Airport, with easy access via bus or taxi,
but Heathrow isn't difficult to reach by rail.
