Travelling to Bournemouth
Bournemouth is well placed on the South coast of England within a few hour's
drive from London. It also sits within easy reach of other popular south coast
centres such as Poole, Southampton and Portsmouth.
Motorists can follow the M3 from London (and the M25) to Southampton and then
head west on the M27 through the New Forest as it becomes the A31. Shortly after
passing through Ringwood you can take the A338 southwards into Bournemouth.
This A338 originates from Salisbury in the north, offering an alternative. From
Dorset, Devon and Cornwall Bournemouth can be reached via the A35 and then the
Rail services to Bournemouth are frequent and convenient from the London hub
with two trains an hour departing from London Waterloo station (duration 2 hours,
30 minutes). An hourly service also takes you to Reading station if you wish
to avoid London altogether.
National Express has direct coach services from Bournemouth to many major UK
towns and cities, particularly in the South. Services leave London's Victoria
Coach Station hourly.
Although Bournemouth has an airport, it has limited services to some European
and UK cities. For long haul flights your closest option is Gatwick airport,
South of London in East Sussex.
There is also an option of the ferry from nearby Poole to St Malo and Cherbourg
in France and St Helier in Jersey. Alternatively ferries depart from Portsmouth,
mostly to the Isle of Wight.
