What to see by car: Bracknell

Many exciting daytrips can be made from Bracknell by car. The Look Out Discovery
Centre in East Hampstead houses a hands-on, interactive science and nature exhibition,
featuring over 70 exhibits. There visitors can launch a hot-air balloon, climb
through a giant mole hole or freeze their shadow on a wall.
The nearby city of Reading is a bustling commercial centre steeped in history
and is known for its 12th century abbey, excellent restaurants and nightlife
and world-class shopping. It has a pretty setting beside the Thames river, hosts
several festivals and has a lovely university.
Windsor Castle, the official residence of The Queen and the largest occupied
castle in the world, is close by. Visitors can walk around the State apartments,
and discover the extensive suites at the heart of the working palace. They can
also explore the lovely historic town, cross over the river to discover Eton
college, or spend hours walking in the massive Windsor Great Deer Park.
Alternatively, there is the Mapledurham House and Watermill, a lovely Elizabethan
mansion beside the Thames, near Reading, with one of the country's last working
watermills (producing wholewheat flour). Also close by is Basildon Park, a classical
Georgian house that is a National Trust property, and which is surrounded by
beautiful parkland overlooking the Thames valley.
Another nearby park is Dinston Pastures Country Park, which has acre2s of lakes,
rivers and meadows to explore with hundreds of flowers, insects, animals and
birds. Meanwhile at The Living Rainforest visitors can view an amazing collection
of beautiful tropical plants, birds and rainforest mammals under 20,000 ft2
of glass.
