What to see by car: Cambridge

Cambridge is an excellent base to explore the surrounding gentle, unspoilt
countryside, as well as to discover ancient monuments, the strange flat Fens
with the greatest skies in all of Britain, and charming villages with quaint
riverside pubs, all within easy travelling distance by car.
Chilford Hall Vineyard is a working vineyard where you can see how wines are
made. Coton Fruit Farm and Orchard, in Madingley, is similarly interesting.
There are a number of old mills in the area which have historical value, found
particularly in Bourn, Hinxton and Great Chisill.
The town of St. Ives is well-known for its historic and picturesque riverside
quay, while Newmarket, which is famous for horseracing, houses the National
Horseracing Museum. Near the village of Quy lies the National Trust property
of Anglesey Abbey and to the south of Cambridge, in Duxford, is the world famous
Duxford Imperial War Museum. The town of Ely is renowned for its cathedral,
the Cathedral of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, which was built in 1083.
Forty miles from Cambridge is the town of Peterborough, which is recognized
for the Flag Fen, a remarkable Bronze Age settlement, one of the oldest in Britain.
Slightly further afield are the glorious wool towns and villages nestled in
the rolling wooded countryside of Suffolk, such as Lavenham and Long Melford,
largely undisturbed since the Middle Ages.
