What to see by car: Cardiff

The Museum of Welsh Life at St. Fagans, located six miles from the city centre,
should not be missed. This award-winning museum has more than 30 original Welsh
buildings that have been reconstructed in perfect detail, in the setting of
a Celtic village, It is also Europe's largest open-air museum.
Snowdonia National Park is Britain's second largest national park, covering
over 1,300 square kilometers. It includes Snowdon, the highest peak in Britain
south of the Scottish Highlands (1,068 meters). Snowdon's many trails make the
summit accessible even to amateurs, and is well worth a climb. The park is a
haven of rivers, lakes, waterfalls, forests and coastline.
To get a taste of a popular seaside resort, visit Llandudno in north western
Wales. The town boasts a unique Victorian architecture, with a lengthy pier
and promenade. Llandudno is located between two sweeping beaches, with the spectacular
limestone cliffs of Great Orme on one end.
Another attraction in Wales is Conwy, one of the best European examples of
a medieval walled town. The town is dominated by Conwy Castle, which has eight
massive towers. Three-quarters of a mile of the town's original walls remain
intact, topped off with 22 towers and three original gateways.
Although the Brecon Beacons National Park is fairly small in size, most people
seek it out to walk the Offa's Dyke Path, which passes along the eastern border,
or the Taff Trail, heading south from Brecon. Here you can visit various quaint
towns and villages, especially Brecon, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye. The Offa's
Dyke Path runs through the Black Mountains, which boast the best views, with
sights such as the ruins of Llanthony Priory, the River Honddu, the pretty church
at Patrishow and the highest peak at Waun Fach.
Castle Coch just north of Cardiff is another of the Marquis of Bute's creations,
which includes Cardiff Castle. This is a fairy tale castle, with round towers
and needle turrets, built in medieval style. The interior is just as eclectic
as that of Cardiff Castle, with an eclectic mix of styles and tastes.
