Exmouth Hotels
Mini guide to Exmouth
Exmouth is located on England's southwest coast and is famed for its long golden
beach, numerous interesting buildings and abundance of entertainment and leisure
activities for the whole family. The traditional resort is backed by rolling hills
and is within easy reach of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park, as well as many
quaint villages.
The beach is Exmouth's main draw and it is ideal for summer bathing and suitable
for children. The sand dunes, rock pools and many seafront activities and attractions
are enough to keep the whole family happy. There are several notable walks around
the seafront -- the 'Madeira' walk is delightful; while Manor Gardens and Strand
Gardens have exceptional floral displays.
Exmouth has a pretty town centre with pedestrianised areas that are accessible
from the beach through the many parks. The biggest attraction in the town is
'A la Ronde', an intriguing 16 sided, late 18th century house decorated with
sea shells and feathers. The town also boasts the world's largest model railway.
Exmouth has an excellent range of shops in the Magnolia Centre, the High street,
Rolle street and the Parade, while the marina offers plenty of entertainment
and leisure activities. For those who like the water, the beach offers a number
of water sports. The town is also loaded with cafés, restaurants and
pubs, as well as a number of excellent nightclubs.
Its great location places Exmouth in a region where you will find many beautiful
towns and villages plus a nature reserve, as well as some attractive rural and
coastal walks, the 'East Devon Way' walk being the most popular. Nearby Exeter,
known for its lovely cathedral, excellent museums and galleries, revitalised
quay and fine old houses, is within easy driving distance.
The M5 motorway and A376 provide access to Exmouth, which also has a railway
station that receives two trains per hour from Exeter, a 25-minute journey away.
Local buses run between Exeter and Exmouth throughout the day and National Express
coaches also have services from London and Bristol. Bristol and Heathrow international
airports receive flights from numerous destinations.
