Geography of Gatwick

Gatwick International Airport is situated 30 miles south of London in South-west England. It sits astride East and West Sussex, not far from Brighton on England's south coast, making it the ideal airport for those arrivals destined for locations south of London.

As an air hub, Gatwick is well placed within easy reach of continental Europe and a good launching point for trans-Atlantic flights. For this reason more than 40 airlines use this airport for connections to 200 worldwide destinations.

Motorists find Gatwick very convenient to get to as it is well placed beside junction 9 of the M23, just north of Reigate. This gives access to destinations north and south, and connects to the M25 circular route that surrounds London and connects to major motorways that feed the rest of the UK. London, Brighton, Southampton and the counties of Sussex (East and West), Surrey and Kent are all within 90 minutes drive.

The main rail route to the South coast from London also passes through London. In addition to the frequent and fast Gatwick Express into London Victoria station, trains can be caught directly south to Brighton and nearby coastal towns and as far north as Bedford, north of London.

The area around the airport is typified by lovely rolling hills, particularly pretty northwest of Gatwick towards Dorking. It offers a pleasant area to stay in and visitors choose from plenty of quaint villages from which to explore the lovely coast around Brighton, Eastbourne and Bognor Regis and even go walking on the South Downs way.
