Hotels Glasgow Airport
Geography of Glasgow Airport
The airport is situated 30 miles south of the lively city of Glasgow and just
north of the coastal town of Ayr. Its transportation links are among the best
in Scotland, with its proximity to the M77 motorway providing a fast link north
to Glasgow and south to Ayr and beyond.
It is also the only Scottish airport with its own train station providing regular
connections into Glasgow from where you can join the national rail network offering
train services all over the UK. There are also regular trains south along the
popular Ayrshire Coast and its numerous resort towns.
Glasgow Prestwick provides a convenient starting point for trips to Glasgow,
the Ayrshire Coast, Burns county, Culzean Castle, and the Trossachs (Scotland's
lake district). It smaller size makes for a much smoother and more relaxing
experience than the much busier Glasgow International.
Golf in Ayrshire and surrounding areas is very popular with picturesque courses
dotting the landscape, including Prestwick Golf Club, site of the first British
Open. Further south of the airport is the world-renowned resort of Turnberry
and its Ailsa golf course, rated among the world's top 15.
